"There is no longer Jew or Gentile, slave or free, male and female. For you are all one in Christ Jesus." -Galatians 3:28 NLT
Within a team—especially in sports like football, basketball, soccer, or baseball--there are many teams compiled of players who play various positions.
For example, there are many positions within the game of football: quarterback, running back, wide receiver, tight end, fullback and the offensive line. These are on the offensive side of the football. Positions on the defensive end of the football include the defensive tackle, defensive end, linebackers, cornerbacks, and safety. Then, there are “special teams” which is comprised of punters, long snappers, holders, field goal kickers, and the coverage team. In addition to those positions, there is a head coach with coaches for most of those specialized positions listed.
In addition, there is the front office or day to-day staff members who put it all together, the owner/owners, president, director of football operations, general manager, trainers, nutritionists/cooks, security, scouts, and many others.
Someone may say, “Wow, there are a lot of positions within the game of football.” They would be correct! There are many positions but each position on the team/organization is very essential for the TEAM to win football games. This is important not only on the field but also off the field as it pertains to volunteering and working within the community.
Like a sports team, the church body is compiled of many positions. For example, the pastor, elders, deacons, evangelists, ushers, young pastor, overseer, the congregation, etc. Just like any other job, church, or organization, there will be setbacks and difficulties. It is so important that the individuals within must come together to reach that one common goal of fulfilling God’s purpose of saving souls being an ambassador of Jesus Christ to the world while making disciples. Nothing should deter that.
No matter the position, race, denomination, title or how money is in your bank account, all believers, (children of God) are one in the body of Christ. We must stop being divisive, come together and make Jesus known to all the world as we grow in our relationship with God.
Every person on the team matters.
