"Shout with joy to the Lord, all the earth! Worship the Lord with gladness. Come before him, singing with joy. Acknowledge that the Lord is God! He made us, and we are his. We are his people, the sheep of his pasture. Enter his gates with thanksgiving; go into his courts with praise. Give thanks to him and praise his name. For the Lord is good. His unfailing love continues forever, and his faithfulness continues to each generation." -Psalm 100:1-5 NLT

Sports are great to watch and play. There are many people who are huge sports fans including myself. At sports-themed restaurants, stadiums, and even at home, we cheer for our favorite teams. We cheer when the players do well and yell when our favorite teams don’t do so well.

But when we go to church, we find ourselves being quiet and not very enthusiastic about praising and worshipping God—or even going to church in general. We really need to look ourselves in the mirror and see where our heart and priorities are.

Our celebration and praise for our favorite teams (which are composed of other human beings) should never be greater than our praise and worship for our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, who died for our sins and blesses us with life. We should never find ourselves planning our Sundays—or any other day for that matter around any sports. Always make God your #1 priority and serve only Him (Luke 4:8).

We don’t have to play cool and act as if we have too much swag to give God the praise because He deserves our praise and worship. And if we can be on time for sports games, work, concerts, and everywhere else, we can be on time at the church!

What God does is worth celebrating
